find me some time please...

Everyone around the blogosphere is reviewing New York Fashion week, going oooh and ahhh over the collections. i've seen a couple of good reviews on Marc Jacobs (you know i adore him!) but i haven't got the time to surf thru ANY of the collections on style.com yet!

Work is piling and the internet connection at home is crap and my powerbook operates like a snail (its 6 years old!), I'm glad it hasn't died on me YET. Im ranting because work is starting to get a lil frustrating and i think my days here are numbered. I have all the tell tale signs for me to move on to somewhere/something else.

I need a long break...

transformers

I saved this photo of Fay taken by The Sartorialist some time ago. I was intrigued by her outfit, the semi tux look + the horizontal/vertical stripe dress, it was love at first sight. In fact i was saving the dress pattern for a visit to the Seamstress. Just over the weekend, she was spotted again wearing this...

A totally different look altogether, very whimsical but chic. And if you look closer, she's wearing a bow tie collar bib-like thingy (i want!) that is identical in the previous outfit.  She uses it as an accessory to transform an outfit from nice to fabulous! It is definitely very inventive. This calls for a DIY project! :D

Shaded

I'm totally digging these ombre tights! Spotted in the Sept issue of Style, seen on the runway of Tsumori Chisato F/W 08 Collection. The ombre effect creates an illusion of depth and layer. Unlike the usual opaque tights (solid and stark), it has a softness to it. Wear it with floaty dresses in layers of chiffon and silk (go the romantic route) or juxtaposing it with solid structured pieces. Whatever you pair it with, it's gonna look fabulous.

Now, the question is, where can you get one of these without forking out a Chisato pricetag? Hong Kong? Japan? I doubt any of the high street brands will be churning these out. I might have to DIY and try if it works if i really have to!

Melly, this one's for you!

This post is for Melly of Greenlaundry. It's the long overdue photo i promised of the Faux patent croc bag from Urban Outfitters. It's not as glossy and shiny as compared to the photo they posted (Photoshopped!!). I'm not sure if it is still available in this color, but the black is equally pretty (my friend has it)! :) Oh the buckle sucks, dropped off a couple of times, but easily fixed.

But i still love it. It's so granny-mama.

Thrift shopping

Last weekend was all about vintage finds and so this weekend I finally made my way down to Praisehaven, the Salvation Army along Bukit Timah Road for some thrift shopping. When we arrived at the entrance of Praisehaven, there was a huge crowd (at least i think it's huge for a thrift shop) and the blasting of music, somewhat like a carnival going on. Coincidentally, they were celebrating their 6th Anniversary (or is it 16th or 60th? The music was too loud, i couldn't hear.) and early birds were given goodie bags, needless to say, i had one too.

The place is relatively small, a lot smaller than i'd have expected. I was amaze with the number of blazers people didn't want, now i can see how Thriftwares can display so many blazers a week for auction. There were racks and rack of men's & women's blazer (just what i'm looking for). I finally picked out 2 pin striped blazers and tried them on. I'd have gotten the other if Tik didn't mention that i looked like i was wearing someone else's blazer (but i was!). So, i thrifted a blazer (yay! deadstock, S$12, was S$20) and it fits me to a T. We picked up some bow tie (2 for S$5) as well as a cummerbund set (Comes with a bow tie too! S$6, was S$10).  They were having a sale to go along with the anniversary party, didn't know how much the discount rate was, we just paid whatever amount we were told. We wanted to shop longer but we ran out of cash after adding the items we have on hand, cause silly me thought they'd accept NETS.

So, above is the 2 vintage belts i scored at Granny's day out last weekend + the bow tie thrifted from Praisehaven. I was trying to do a outfit post with the blazer but i couldn't capture it due to poor lighting in the room and somehow i'm still trying to work that blazer. I don't know if its my proportions, but i look odd. Karla works the blazer so effortlessly (envy! envy! envy!). I want that black/navy blazer with white trimmings, its gorgeous! The blazer is her signature style, she has one in almost every color. How does she do it?

I'm also thinking of changing the buttons on the blazer to gold nautical ones to give it a lil character. Now I can't wait to visit the one along Upper Serangoon Road!

PS: Can someone define thrifting? How much is considered thrift?

au natural

These photographs by Brigitte Sire are simply breathtaking. It's so natural, it seems like the photos were taken in the moment, no posing nothing.

Utopia

Amazing prints. Soft, subtle and stunning. A great transition of colors for a year's collection from summer to winter. And the blousy cuts looks extremely comfortable to wear.

I'd like to have all of the above please.
