de lovely

Isn't it lovely to walk down a rose covered aisle?

I seriously wonder how many stalks of roses are needed and i supposed this only works with short wedding dresses sans train? Weddings are so inspiring, romantic and makes you go awww.. With all the weddings I've attended and talks about friends getting married or already hitched, I am so regretting not pursuing my long time dream of being a wedding planner. Jobs opening anyone?

L.O.V.E

I am not one to celebrate Valentines' Day, when single, we go out in a group of single girlfriends, when attached, we stay home and laugh at those being scam into paying double for their meals (and flowers). Call me the Valentines' cynic, but shouldn't love be celebrated every single day of our lives? Why do we need to commemorate one day to be lovey dovey and outrightly display affection. Send her flowers on any ordinary day but Valentines' Day or surprise him with his favourite scent on date nights. Love gestures feels more special on an ordinary day rather than a commercial one.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still a romantic at heart, and these photos by Max Wanger of Joanna and fiance of A Cup of Jo melts my heart. You can see the love in their eyes. Love should be celebrated everyday.

So instead of celebrating love for just your partner, spread the love to everyone, your mum, dad, siblings, neighbor and friends.

Happy Valentines Day!

Sushi?

If you ask me, Jap is probably on top of the list for the type of cuisine I'd go for. Needless to say, this fascinates me, we even ordered it for a friend's birthday for kicks.

Now this knitted sushi is ultra cute! and I'd order a platter in a minute! You can get the patterns from needlenoodle

Genius

Okay, I have a confession to make - I can't cycle, but with this new uber cool invention, I'm gonna grab a bike and start learning.

Bring along a bike lane with you where ever you cycle to. Lightlane shines in a shape of a bike lane right behind you so cars can clearly see where you're riding. A brilliant way to help reduce road accidents. Pure genius! via a cup of jo

vintage ain't just about the clothes

During the usual etsy surfing for vintage clothes, I somehow chanced upon these vintage electronic home wares and "toys". I am in total awe that according to the seller, most of these items are still in working condition. Let's go down the list...

Okay, this is about the most adorable telephone I have ever seen! I mean i've seen many types of vintage phones, but this baby pink donut shaped one is uber cute! It is a circa 1970s phone and still in working condition. It features a faux rotary dial with flash, redial, ringer and receiver volume control, what more do you need right? If i have a home of my own, this will be in it.

Anyone can guess what this is? Apparently, it is a 1964 Kenner easy bake oven. Extremely rare (I Bet it is!) and still in "working" condition. Though it lights up and gets heated, i doubt you can seriously 'bake' with it, can you? I'm no expert. Maybe you can, maybe you can't (how do you even know how to operate it?), but what the heck,  it's gonna be hell cool to have one of this on display in the house. It will definitely be a conversational piece for party guests. An guess what, it only stands at 14" high (I have bags much bigger than this thing!)

*The Easy Bake over was born in Kenner in 1963. It is a working toy oven. After its "official" introductory at a toy fair in 1964, more than 500,000 units were sold. The initial retail price was $15.99. By 1967, more than 2 million sets were sold in the United States.

okay, this one is pretty straight forward, it's a 1968 Suzy Homemaker mixer for girls. Looks pretty much like the ones we use in this century. This set, may not work, but it's ultimately adorable. The robin blue is enough to make my heart flutter.

THIS! is freaking cute! It is a circa 1949 made by Taylor Tot baby stroller / toddler walker. It features a metal body with working brakes and removable handles with a play/snack tray for the little ones. It will be the perfect shower gift for any vintage mum to be! No doubt there will be rusting due to age, but that's what vintage is about, the beauty of the wears and tears yet surviving till this very day. Kid or no kid, i'd love to have one just for display.

Traditional vs Modern

This post if gonna be photo intensive. It was a Friday night of cam-whoring.

We were out to celebrate Tik's birthday and it was definitely a hell of a celebration. We had a Sou Tao (LongevityPeach) ordered before hand. For those who are not familiar Sou Tao (Longevity Peach) is a traditional "cake" thingy eaten during the birthday of a elderly. It is believed that it can prolong your life for an additional 500 years (yeah right!). Anyway, Tik is not exactly an elderly but it was hilarious. To indulge in the theme of a traditional birthday, we made reservations at Red Star Restaurant for a 9-course sit down chinese dinner, extremely kitchy i say. It's what we call "Jia Tok" i have no idea how to translate that.

the extremely ornamented ceiling.

Huge Sou Tao with baby Sou Taos hidden inside. Like some alien life form! We couldn't stop snapping. The cook thought it was a birthday celebration of some old folk.

To continue with the theme, we headed to New Majestic Hotel for drinks. New Majestic Hotel is a boutique hotel at Bukit Pasoh (Chinatown) with rooms designed by various artists.

And here is where all the snapping began.

It's freaky how the animals look so damn real!

All the following photos were taken against one wall. It kinda gave a mood with one spot of light source from the top. There were lots of art directing going on. We had photos that were good for advertising campaigns like the yellow ribbon project, drug addicts, child abuse, not exactly very happy. We probably shot enough for an entire portfolio in one night haha. Noelle's Sony cybershot took the best photos, they capture the mood of the lightings surrounding the area almost exactly like how it was. Unlike the Panasonic Lumix i was using, all the photos turned out extremely red, so when the individual shots were taken, it kinda look like girls from a red light district.

this shot works for a depression campaign. No?

The girls are endorsing Senada Theory.

irregular choice vs schu. Obviously the irregular choice wins!

dress: marc by marc jacobs
purple tights: far east plaza (I need a new one, it keeps sliding down)
shoes: yellow ballet flats/ schu

Lesson of the day, there's a first in everything

Okay, this sucks. I've bought over 20 items from ebay and this is my first time experiencing a non delivered item. It's been 4 weeks since the bid closed and till today, not a parcel in sight. I've emailed the seller twice and no reply. I've finally filed a dispute with paypal in order to get the seller to respond. No idea if that will work. I wonder what are the chances. Luckily, it was an inexpensive bid.

Anyone with similar experiences? Any idea what's next? Am I gonna see my money?

Sigh.

in the Pink of health

In support of womanhood, victims and survivors of breast cancer, let's try to incorporate Pink into our daily outfits for this entire month of October. Take a cue from these stylish people in the streets. Dress fully in Pink or subtle details in which ever way you prefer. Now I'm desperately trying to dig out whatever Pinks i have in my wardrobe and fit them into my daily wears.

Let's paint the town Pink!

Over indulgence

I ordered a gnome from Ebay for tik cause you can't get a decent one here in Singapore. She wanted to built a faux garden for the gnome and so we landed ourselves at Daiso (a SG$2 shop with plenty of japanese products). I've over indulge her with her silly ideas and this is what we came up with. It was actually quite fun picking out the garden accessories. Now the little gnome has a place to call home!

Mind you, this little garden is above a bookshelf!

find me some time please...

Everyone around the blogosphere is reviewing New York Fashion week, going oooh and ahhh over the collections. i've seen a couple of good reviews on Marc Jacobs (you know i adore him!) but i haven't got the time to surf thru ANY of the collections on style.com yet!

Work is piling and the internet connection at home is crap and my powerbook operates like a snail (its 6 years old!), I'm glad it hasn't died on me YET. Im ranting because work is starting to get a lil frustrating and i think my days here are numbered. I have all the tell tale signs for me to move on to somewhere/something else.

I need a long break...
